Pulsford has drawn likenesses from life for over fifty years – the earliest shown here is of his friend the cellist Leslie Snider (see image no.8), sitting at a table in the Bar-Tabac in Tourettes-sur-Loup in the spring of 1971. The latest is the study in oil paint of the young techno-musician Fox Campion, made in July 2024 (see image no.1).
In 2018-2021 the artist used photographic and cinematic sources for the graphic recollections of the sadly deceased John Martyn (1949-2009) the Scottish singer and songwriter (see images 21-30). Since then, with his counter-intuitive white-on-black technique, he has produced graphic illustrations for Sarah Jane Morris & Tony Remy’s The Sisterhood (2024), their song cycle / musical history of women and songwriting (see images 16-20). These will become available as giclée prints.
